Large vitreous glass enamel butterfly. Sterling silver foil on copper. Triple strand beaded necklace attached to sterling sliver 15" adjustible chain. All pieces one of a kind and will vary in detail.
Statement Butterfly Necklace
The butterfly shape is comprised of copper, and has sterling silver foil fired onto the piece before glass vitreous enamel is carefully applied to both front and back, with another firing in a kiln. This process ensures that all pieces are one of a kind.
Firing process: Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, is a material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 °C (1,380 and 1,560 °F). The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating.
Technique: Enamel on sterling silver foil. The image on front of the butterfly is created by delicately appliyng vitreous enamel (powdered glass) on top of sterling silver foil, and then firing to fuse the glass. When transparent enamels are fired over foil, brilliant color and jewel like effects can be obtained. Generally the desired colors only appear when the piece is fired.
Size: Large Butterfly is 3 1/2" inches wide and 2 3/4" inches tall. Chain is 15" inches long.
Care & Cleaning: This product cleans best with a damp cloth on the beads and butterfly and a jewelry cloth can be used to polish the sterling silver chain.
