Hand Painted Enamel Dog Pendant/Pin

This fun pendant can be worn as a pin or a pendant on a necklace.  It was hand painted on copper with glass enamel by an art form called grisaille.  The pendant is embellished with charms and a feather to top if off. 

Nickel wire necklace included.  

Size:  Face is 2' wide and pendant is roughly 4 1/2"  long not including the feather. 

 

Technique: The grisaille enamel painting technique involves, mixing pulverized white vitreous enamel into a paste with water, turpentine, oil of lavender, or petroleum oil and is then applied to a dark enamel ground, usually coloured black or blue. Lighter areas of the design are thickly painted, while the gray areas are obtained by painting with thinner coats to allow the dark background colour to tone the white enamel pigment. This technique achieves a dramatic effect of light and shade and a pronounced sense of three-dimensionality.

Care: Wipe with damp cloth, and jewelry cloth can be used to polish the wire necklace.
