Large vitreous glass enamel butterfly. Triple strand beaded necklace attached to 15" sterling sliver adjustible chain. All pieces one of a kind and will vary in detail.
Statement Butterfly Necklace
The butterfly shape is comprised of copper, and has glass vitreous enamel carefully applied to both front and back of the piece by firing in a kiln. This process ensures that all pieces are one of a kind.
Firing process: Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, is a material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 °C (1,380 and 1,560 °F). The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating.
Technique: Painting with powdered enamel. The image on front of the butterfly is created by delicately applying vitreous enamel (powdered glass, mixed with a binder oil) and then fired to fuse the glasses. It can produce brilliant and long-lasting colors, and be transparent, translucent or opaque. Generally the desired colors only appear when the piece is fired.
Size: Large Butterfly is 3 1/2" inches wide and 2 3/4" inches tall. Chain is 15" inches long.
Care & Cleaning: This product cleans best with a damp cloth on the beads and butterfly and a jewelry cloth can be used to polish the sterling silver chain.
