Cloisonne Enamel Pendant or Pin
Cloisonne Enamel Pendant/Pin
This stunning Cloisonne piece can be worn either as a pendant or a pin. It is made of sterling silver, copper, and is accented with two onyx cabochons.
*Note: Neck wire is NOT included with this piece.*
The design shape is first formed on top of a copper plate, and has glass vitreous enamel carefully applied to both front and back of the piece by firing in a kiln. This process ensures that all pieces are one of a kind.
Technique: Cloisonne enamel on sterling silver foil. The design is created by first adding compartments to the copper metal object by soldering or affixing silver or gold wires in thin strips placed on their edges. These remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays, by delicately applying vitreous enamel (powdered glass) on top of sterling silver foil, and then firing to fuse the glass.
When transparent enamels are fired over foil, brilliant color and jewel like effects can be obtained. Generally the desired colors only appear when the piece is fired. Each piece is one of a kind.
Size: 2 1/2" wide by 3 1/4" tall.
Care: Wipe with damp cloth, or use jewelry cloth.
Firing process: Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, is a material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 °C (1,380 and 1,560 °F). The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating.
