Blue Beaded Enameled Butterfly Necklace

  • The butterfly shape is comprised of copper, and has glass vitreous enamel carefully applied to both front and back of the piece by firing in a kiln. This process ensures that all pieces are one of a kind.

Firing process: Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, is a material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 °C (1,380 and 1,560 °F). The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating.

Technique: Painting with powdered enamel. The image on front of the butterfly is created by delicately applying vitreous enamel (powdered glass, mixed with a binder oil) and then fired to fuse the glasses. It can produce brilliant and long-lasting colors, and be transparent, translucent or opaque. Generally the desired colors only appear when the piece is fired.

Size: Large Butterfly is 3 1/2" inches wide and 2 3/4" inches tall, 3 3/4" tall including dangling beads. Chain is 26" inches long. 13" drop. It can be shortened at buyer's request.

Care & Cleaning: This product cleans best with a damp cloth on the beads and butterfly and a jewelry cloth can be used to polish the sterling silver chain.
